I watched news reports about air pollution in Delhi and how people needed air purifiers just to breathe indoors. That gave me a thought — instead of advertising an air purifier, what if I made an ad for an indoor plant doing the same job, using that old advertisement style with its witty and exaggerated tone? I had a few other ideas in a similar vein but never acted on them.
When I recently decided to apply to a design institute that mentioned environmental concerns as a focus, I thought — why not take this opportunity to finally act on those ideas and make a poster series?
I did some research on Pinterest to get a feel for the tone and composition — the witty exaggerated style of old vintage product ads felt like exactly the right fit.

The second poster was about walking and cycling. The walking part was influenced by several things — coming to the US, I walked a lot, the footpaths are good and taking a walk is genuinely relaxing. I also wanted to gently highlight how people sometimes take a scooter to pick up kids from school when the drop off point is right at the apartment gate and they could have simply walked. Convenient, yes — but I feel that sometimes making things too convenient isn't always a good thing. You can miss out on some things.
The public transport angle came from news about administrations wanting to cut trees to widen roads despite public opposition, when improving public transport would have been a simpler and better solution. The Mumbai mangroves situation was one such story, though I am not sure of the current status. It felt a bit like a coding analogy — introducing new code to fix a bug and ending up complicating things further instead.
I was looking for inspiration and came across these ads that listed items with short descriptions beneath each one — that format felt like a natural fit for what I wanted to say.
